Alabio duck is a dual purpose breed originating in Indonesia. It is also locally known asItik Alabio. It is a very popularduck breedin Indonesia and highly populated in South Kalimantan.

Physical Characteristics of Alabio Duck
Alabio ducks are generally of brown color with white spots and a line pattern around the eyes. The drake and ducks are different in color. The ducks have a light brown head, and the drakes have a head with bright blue or green color.
There have been several cross breeding of Alabio duck. Which changes it’s productivity, color of shank, beak and feathers from the original Alabio ducks. Original Alabio duck has cream feathers. And their beak and shanks are either dark yellow, light yellow or orange.

Uses
The Alabio duck was mainly raised as alaying duck breed. But now, they are also being raised for meat production, as they produce tasty meat. Today the breed is being raised as a dual purpose duck breed.
Special Notes
Alabio duck is a utility breed and suitable for both meat and eggs production. They do very well in confinement, but require goodhousingfacilities with plenty of space for better result. They are good fliers.
Like most other ducks, Alabio ducks also love swimming. So sufficient amount of clean water is necessary. They are very strong and long lived birds. The average lifespan of Alabio duck is about 8 years, but can live up to 12 years depending on the breed.
Alabio drakes are very protective and will guard their nest by chasing away other ducks. Alabio ducks are excellent layers and can lay up to 200 eggs per year. Ducks tend to go broody.
