The Lebedyn Cattle is a dairy cattle breed from Ukraine. The breed is also known by some other names such asLebedincattle or Ukrainian:Лeбeдинcькa,Lebedynska. Actually this breed was formed by crossing Ukrainian Grey cattle with Brown Swiss bulls. It was recognized as a breed in 1950.

And the breed was first bred in the Sumy region and are now raised in the Sumy, Chernihiv and Kharkiv regions. More recently, American Brown Swiss bull have been used for further improving this breed. Read more info about the breed below.

Lebedyn Cattle Characteristics

Lebedyn Cattle are large animals with well-proportioned bodies. The breed has similarities with theBrown Swiss cattlein appearance. Color of these animals vary from almost grey to dark brown. The forequarters, muzzle and sides are a darker shade. Mature bulls on average weight about 850 to 950 kg. And a mature cow on average weights about 500 to 650 kg.

Uses

Lebedyn Cattle are mainly used for milk production. They produce good quality milk with high butterfat content.

Special Notes

The Lebedyn cows are very good milk producers. The cows on average produce about 3,000 to 3,700 kg of milk per lactation, but sometimes produce more.

The milk of the Lebedyn cows is of very good quality. Their milk contain high butterfat levels. Butterfat levels averaging 3.76 percent with some cows giving over 5 percent.
